Warning: New Vulnerabilities Discovered in Windows and Microsoft Exchange

Recently, during a global cybersecurity event (Pwn2Own), serious vulnerabilities were discovered in widely used software such as Windows 11 and Microsoft Exchange. This means that hackers have found ways to infiltrate computer systems using this software. No less than 15 new methods have been discovered for cybercriminals to gain access, for which the discoverers received substantial cash prizes. These types of 'zero-day' vulnerabilities are particularly dangerous because they are still unknown to the software manufacturers, meaning there is no immediate solution or protection available.

What does this specifically mean for your SME business? It is important to realize that these vulnerabilities are often exploited more broadly than just in the software where they were originally found. Hackers often try to inflict wider damage with these new attack methods. For SMEs, this is an urgent reminder that good security is not a luxury, but a necessity. A successful attack can lead to data loss, business disruption, reputational damage, and even significant fines if personal data is compromised.

What can you do about it? Although software manufacturers (like Microsoft) will release updates as quickly as possible to patch these gaps, it is crucial to always install the latest updates as soon as they become available. Additionally, ensure you have a robust cybersecurity strategy. This includes, among other things, training your employees to recognize phishing attacks, using strong passwords and multi-factor authentication (two-step verification), and regularly backing up your important data. Consider also engaging professional help to protect your systems. At Assist2go, we are happy to help you identify your risks and implement appropriate security measures.
