Screening Data Hacked Due to Insufficient Security
Source: NU.nl Tech
The laboratory Clinical Diagnostics experienced a hack last year in which sensitive data from population screening was stolen. Following an investigation, the Inspectorate for Health and Youth Care (IGJ) concluded that the data security at the laboratory was not in order. This means that the personal data of many individuals who participated in this important population screening were not adequately protected.
The IGJ has determined that Clinical Diagnostics was negligent in protecting the information. This is a serious matter, as it concerns highly confidential data. The hack has demonstrated that cybersecurity measures are essential, especially when it comes to health data.
What does this mean for your SME business? This incident serves as an important warning that your company can also be targeted by cybercrime. Protecting customer data, employee information, and trade secrets is crucial. Without proper security, you risk data breaches, which can lead to reputational damage, fines, and loss of customer trust. Ensure that your digital security is up-to-date and that you regularly check if your systems are still sufficiently protected against the latest threats.
